My name is Bethany Kerr, and I’ve been interested in drawing for as long as I can remember!
I’ve been married for nearly 20 years to James, and together we have 8 children: Caleb, Bonnie, Noah, Ian, Annah, Bobby, David, and Elijah (Ranged in age from 18 years – 6 months).
All of my children love to draw and paint with me, and some of them create music as well. I’m amazed at how each of them is so unique in their abilities and it’s such a wonderful feeling to watch them develop.
Besides being a mother, there is nothing I can imagine being more fulfilling than creating artwork that brings joy to the lives of others.
I started drawing when I was a child but just didn’t stop when I grew up. When I got married in 1998, I had a lot of time to devote to learning and developing my art skills. I spent entire days for years just drawing and learning more about techniques from books I read. When I found out that I could actually make money doing what I enjoyed doing as a hobby, I was surprised and overjoyed.
Since then, I’ve drawn thousands of portraits. I’ve also painted murals around our city and just keep pushing myself to learn more because no matter how much you learn, there’s always more that you can do to improve.
In 2013, I drew 160 portraits of premature babies and compiled almost 100 of them into a book (along with a real-life story to accompany each illustration) called Precious Infants, Courageous Stories of Premature Birth. You can read more about that on my facebook page for the book.
In 2017, my friend Elena Caudle and I got together to create two children’s’ books: Serendipitous, and Serendipitous Too. These books are filled with scenes of whimsical animals that I illustrated, and delightful poems that she wrote. We are currently working on our third in the Serendipitous series, and you can learn more on our facebook page.
I’m in the process of creating a book full of tips on how to improve your drawing skills, which I will link to here when it is complete!
If you’re interested, I have a facebook page with many examples of my artwork which you can see here, and another website here.
I firmly believe that ANYONE can draw realistically. It just takes a matter of desire, patience, and determination to get there. I hope that you’ll find my posts here informative and also encouraging. I would love to think I could help you to become confident in your abilities!
Be sure to contact me if you have any questions or comments. I would love to hear from you!
